DAE-BRNS National Laser Symposium (NLS-26)


Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, in collaboration with Indian Laser Association, is organizing the 26th National Laser Symposium during December 20-23, 2017. The symposium is sponsored by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). The symposium aims to create a platform for researchers in the field of laser physics, technology and applications, to interact with each other and network with eminent scientists and engineers in the field. The symposium will cover invited talks by leading experts, poster presentation of the contributed papers, and thesis presentation by Ph.D. students. The Indian Laser Association will also conduct short courses prior to the Symposium. The symposium organizing committee cordially invites all the scientists, engineers, and students engaged in the basic and applied research in the broad areas of laser, to participate in the symposium.

Anushaktinagar, is located at Trombay in the north-eastern part of the Mumbai city, which is well connected to the other parts of India and to the rest of the world. Participants arriving by train should alight at Dadar, Mumbai Central, Mumbai CSMT, Kurla LTT, or Bandra Terminus. Those travelling by flights will arrive at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International / Domestic airport. Anushaktinagar is about 30 km from Mumbai CSMT and less than 30 km from the other terminals, and about 20 km from the international / domestic airport. Delegates coming by flights are advised to take taxi from pre-paid taxi service windows at the airports. Anushaktinagar is also approachable by the harbour branch of local trains. Those availing the local train should alight at Mankhurd and take auto rickshaw from there for reaching the DAE Convention Center located in Anushaktinagar.

Authors are requested to submit a full-length manuscript in the specified format by September 15, 2017, as per the guidelines and instructions provided. Use MS word 2007 or higher version in ‘.doc’ format. The length of the manuscript should be at least 2 pages and not more than 4 pages (including figures, references, tables etc.). A separate short abstract (maximum 100 words) as per the guidelines should also be submitted.
Ph.D. students who have submitted their thesis in the topics of interest of the symposium, or expect to submit the thesis by October 31, 2017, and those who have been awarded Ph.D. degree after January 1, 2017, are eligible for thesis presentation. Those interested should send a four-page summary of their thesis by September 15, 2017 along with a certificate from their Ph.D. guide specifying the date of submission of thesis or award of the degree.
A ‘Book of Abstracts’ containing abstracts of peer reviewed contributed papers, invited talks, and thesis summaries, and a softcopy containing full manuscripts, will be made available to the participants during the symposium.
A poster board of area of 1m x 1m will be provided for each poster presentation.
The invited talks, papers selected for the "Best Poster Award", and articles based on the work of "Best Thesis Award", will be published in Kiran, the ILA Newsletter.

ILA Short Courses and Exibition

The Indian Laser Association (ILA), the co-organizer of NLS-26, will organize short tutorial courses during December 18-19, 2017 at the conference venue. ILA will award prizes for the "Best Thesis" and "Best Poster" presentations. The annual general body meeting of ILA will be held during the symposium.
ILA is also organizing an industrial exhibition for lasers and related products during NLS-26.


Financial assistance towards local hospitality and travel by train (sleeper class) by the shortest route can be provided to a limited number of deserving students. Applications for the assistance with a letter of recommendation from research guide / head of the department and addressed to the Convener, NLS-26 should reach on or before 7th November 2017.
