DAE-BRNS National Laser Symposium (NLS-25)

The 25th National Laser Symposium, sponsored by the Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, Department of Atomic Energy, will be organized at Department of Physics, School of Applied Sciences, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar during December 20 - 23, 2016. The symposium aims to create a platform for researchers in the field of laser physics, technology and applications, to interact with each other and network with eminent scientists in the field. The symposium will cover invited talks by leading experts, poster presentations of the contributed papers and thesis presentations by Ph.D. students. The Indian Laser Association will also conduct short courses prior to the Symposium. The symposium organizing committee cordially invites all the scientists, engineers, and students engaged in the basic and applied research in the broad areas of laser and related fields, to participate in the symposium.

Venue

The Symposium is being organized at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar. The university spreads over 25 sq. k.m. area and has come a long way within short span of time as world class institution. Since its inception in 1992, KIIT has emphasized on quality education and it was declared university in 2004. It has been granted “A-Category” status by MHRD and is accredited by NAAC of UGC in 'A Grade‘. The multi-disciplinary university has professional institutes of medicine, engineering, law, management, film and media sciences. The university is making strong headway in research as well. Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), a sister concern of KIIT University offers holistic education from Kindergarten to Postgraduate, accommodation, food, health care and all other basic necessities to 25000 tribal children of the poorest of the poor background absolutely free!
Department of Physics, School of Applied Sciences also offers Ph.D. programmes in Physics. Frontier research work on various fields of basic and applied Physics is the back bone of this department. Beside various programme specific courses at post graduate level are also offered in different schools.
The weather at Bhubaneswar during symposium period is quite pleasant and the expected day time temperature is between 20 – 22°C. The venue is about 12 km from railway station and about 15 km from the Bhubaneswar airport. Puri, Konark, Chilka, Dhualagiri, Khandagiri, Nandankanon Zoo are famous tourist places near Bhubaneswar.

Paper and Thesis Submission

Authors are requested to submit a full-length manuscript in the specified format by August 31, 2016 September 16, 2016, as per the guidelines and instructions provided in the NLS-25 website. Use MS word 2007 or higher version in ‘.doc’ format. The length of the manuscript should be at least 2 pages and not more than 4 pages (including figures, references, tables etc.). A separate short abstract (maximum 100 words) as per the guidelines should also be submitted.
Ph.D. students who have submitted their thesis in the topics of interest of the symposium, or expect to submit the thesis by October 31, 2016, and those who have been awarded Ph.D. degree after January 1, 2016, are eligible for thesis presentation. Those interested should send a four-page summary of their thesis by August 31, 2016 September 16, 2016 along with a certificate from their Ph.D. guide specifying the date of submission of thesis or award of the degree.
A ‘Book of Abstracts’ containing abstracts of peer reviewed contributed papers, invited talks, and thesis summaries, and a CD containing full manuscripts, will be made available to the participants during the symposium.
A poster board of area of 1m x 1m will be provided for each poster presentation.
The invited talks, papers selected for the "Best Poster Award", and articles based on the work of "Best Thesis Award", will be published in Kiran, the ILA Newsletter.

Accommodation

Hostel accommodation on double sharing basis will be provided to the student participants. Other participants will be accommodated in hotels in single / sharing (AC / non-AC) rooms. For more details about the hotels, please visit the NLS-25 website. All accommodation requests should be uploaded on the NLS-25 website. Please note that accommodation in hotels would be provided only after receipt of an advance payment. Participants can also directly book the accommodation using the link provided on symposium website.

ILA Short Courses and Exhibition

The Indian Laser Association (ILA), the co-organizer of NLS-25, will organize short tutorial courses on December 18-19, 2016 at the conference venue. ILA will announce the details of these courses separately. ILA will also award prizes for the "Best Thesis" and "Best Poster" presentations. The annual general body meeting of ILA will also be held during the symposium.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance towards local hospitality and travel by train (sleeper class) by the shortest route can be provided to a limited number of deserving students. Applications for the assistance with a letter of recommendation from research guide / head of the department and addressed to the Convener, NLS-25 should reach on or before 7th November 2016.
