Indian Laser Association (ILA) will be organizing the following two short courses on Jan
11 and 12, 2010 (immediately preceding the ninth DAE-BRNS
National Laser Symposium, NLS-09) at Bhabha
Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai
1. Course I: “Optical Engineering”
Course Coordinator: Prof. L. N. Hazra, University of Calcutta, Kolkata
The course objective is to provide a comprehensive understanding of the optical and photonic components, devices and systems so that the participants not only have a proper appreciation of the ‘what, why and how’ of the various optical instruments that researchers come across in real life, but also learn how to tackle different problems related to the design and synthesis of optical layouts for various applications. An interactive tutorial session will also be organized to help the participants interact with the experts so that they can plan to execute what they learn.
2. Course II: "Laser Beam Diagnostics"
Course Coordinator: Dr. S. S. Thattey, BARC, Mumbai
The course will cover measurement of different parameters of lasers like wavelength (both absolute and differential), beam profile, beam quality (M-square and divergence), energy and power. Issues like accurate measurement of the parameters, digital image analysis and software issues related to the diagnostic instrumentation will be discussed. The course will also provide an opportunity for the participants to interact with the research scientists and engineers and discuss the development of specific diagnostics instrumentation.
Both the courses will run for two days from 9:30 to 17:30 hrs and will be conducted in parallel.
