Preceding the sixth DAE-BRNS National Laser Symposium, NLS-6, at RRCAT, Indore during 5-8 Dec, 2006, Indian Laser Association (ILA) is organising short courses on Lasers Applications & related topics on 3th and 4th Dec. 2006.

Course Fees:
Fees per course per participant is:
Rs. 200 for ILA members/ ILA corporate member
Rs. 400 for Non ILA members.
Rs. 600 for participants from Industry.
In addition, approximately Rs. 150 per day
per person will have to be paid towards lodging
and boarding for duration of stay, 3h and
4th Dec.’ 06.

Contents of ILA Short Courses
Course I: “Growth and Optical Characteristics
of Nanostructures”
Date: December 3, 2006
Coordinator: L. M. Kukreja
1. Fundamentals: Low dimensional mesoscopic
structures, Quantum confinement effects on
band structures, Density of states of different
nanostructures, Oscillator strength, and
Surface plasmon resonances etc.
2. Growth: Top down and bottom up approaches,
Growth modes, Metalorganic chemical vapor
deposition, Molecular beam epitaxy, Pulsed
laser deposition, Atomic layer deposition,
and Wet chemical methods.
3. Characterization: Optical characterization
using Photoabsorption spectroscopy, Photoluminescence
(PL) and PL excitation spectroscopy, Photo-reflectance
and Raman, Structural characterization using
X-ray techniques, electrical characterization
using Hall and quantum Hall measurements,
4. Applications: Quantum well lasers and
photodetectors, Sensors, Low dimensional
electron systems etc.
Course II: “Generation, Characterization
and Amplification of Ultra-short Laser Pulses”
Date: December 4, 2006
Coordinator: S. M. Oak
1. Basics: The basic physics of mode-locking
process and technology of generation of ultrashort
laser pulses.
2. Femtosecond pulse generation: The physics
of self phase modulation, self focusing,
Kerr lens mode-locking and fsec pulse generation.
3. Detection: Auto correlation and other
techniques for detection and measurement
of ultrafast pulse parameters.
4. Advanced pulse diagnostics techniques:
Intensity Correlation Techniques (and variants
like PICASO, SPIDER, Interferometric techniques
5. Ultrashort Pulse Amplification: Problems
of short pulse amplification, chirping, CPA
technique, GVD, set-ups to get positive /
negative GVD, double-pass and bow-tie amplifiers
6. OPCPA technique: Optical parametric amplification,
collinear/noncollinear phase matching, properties
of idler, salient features of OPCPA, gain
characteristics, problems in OPCPA and its
limitations.
